In Home Behavioral, Autism Services
Behavioral therapy is a gold standard treatment for autism and ASD. Early intervention is critical, although children of all ages may benefit from behavioral treatments. Our home-based behavioral therapy program allows us to come to your home to observe your child in his or her normal environment and to provide interventions. Our highly trained therapists deliver the interventions, which may focus on social skills, language and communication, play skills, motor abilities, and activities of daily living. We believe that this approach is the best way to help your child gain the cognitive, social, and other skills needed to improve everyday functioning. Parents, siblings, and family members are included as needed to support the child in his or her treatment.
Sunrise Behavioral Health Clinic is proud to have numerous clinicians on staff. Who are experts in the assessment and treatment of autism and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). We offer supportive, family-centered care for individuals with autism and their loved ones.
Who Our Autism Team Serves
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a relatively new diagnostic term, although autism and related disorders have been addressed in behavioral health settings for a long time. This diagnostic term reflects a growing recognition of the range of symptoms and behaviors that fall under the category of “autism” or “autism-related” conditions. For example, what used to be called Asperger’s syndrome has now been included in the ASD diagnostic category. Some of the most common characteristics associated with ASD include:
- Persistent social problems, including difficulty understanding others’ emotions or responses
- Difficulty communicating with others
- Repetitive behaviors
- Limited interests or activities (such as being very preoccupied with a specific item or activity)
- These symptoms cause difficulty in day-to-day life, such as at school or at home
It is important to note that autism characteristics fall along a spectrum: some people have very mild difficulties, while others may be severely impaired. We believe that evaluating each client as an individual helps us tailor our intervention to match his or her unique needs.
Our IHB Team serve’s any individual with autism or an ASD. We take a supportive, family-centered approach, meaning that family members are incorporated to our interventions. Our goal is to help your loved one with autism improve learning, communication, social skills, and other targeted areas.
The IHB Team at Sunrise Behavioral Health Clinic provides a comprehensive set of services to help clients and family with autism or ASD. Our services include:
The first step to helping your child is to perform a thorough assessment to rule out other disorders that may cause autism-like symptoms. This includes taking a thorough history from family members as well as interacting with your child to understand the nature of his or her difficulties.
We take a strengths-based perspective when evaluating your child. Many children with ASD have above average intelligence, and some excel in specific academic areas. Thus, we will evaluate areas of particular strength as well as relative weaknesses when conducting an assessment. At Sunrise Behavioral Health Clinic, we feel that this is important information to help us provide the highest level of care for your child.
We will work with parents to develop an individualized treatment plan for your child. As our clinic includes psychiatrists, advanced practice registered nurses, psychologists, and mental health counselors, we take a team-based approach to connecting your child with the services he or she needs.
Our IHB/Autism Team includes English- and Spanish-speaking clinicians. Please contact us today to learn more about our services and how we can help you and your family.
